Module 25: Orchestral Excerpts
Mahler 5: The Opening
The most famous trumpet call in history. It opens the symphony alone. It implies a military funeral march. The triplet rhythm must be precise, not lazy. The tone should be dark, heavy, and ominous.

Stravinsky: Petrushka
The 'Ballerina's Dance'. This solo captures the jerky movement of a puppet. It uses difficult intervals and requires sharp, biting articulation ('Secco'). Use a C Trumpet for the best clarity.

Respighi: Pines of Rome
The 'Offstage Solo'. Gentle, ethereal, and distant. You must float a High C pianissimo effortlessly. It represents a memory of glory past. If you miss the High C, the illusion is shattered.

Mussorgsky: Pictures (Promenade)
The opening theme. You represent the viewer walking through the art gallery. The sound requires a 'Noble' character—fat, golden, and rich. Do not rush. Let the acoustic of the hall ring.
